  • I think it's pathetic, but predictable, that Labour are screaming for his head.

The artificially low interest rates haven't helped my savings, but my job is secure, my rent is unchanged and I don't have money worries as I've never over-extended myself. Fortunately I don't know anyone who's lost their job.

I do miss the pick n mix in Woolies, but apart from that I haven't noticed any recession at all.

Yes, i think it's safe to say people have never had it so good.

To argue that this generation doesnt have an immeasurably better quality of life than every single generation in history is fatuous nonsense.

Ergo, we've never had it so good.

What happened to "The mess Labour left us in" mantra?

Having a £400k interest only mortgage would scare me.

Is your friend using the difference to pay off the capital?

No, getting a much better return in savings and investments. Tracker taken out 5 years ago on about 1% over base. He is actually saving the equivalent of 1 persons full time average salary.

You're like a stats machine Hamish. Is there any other forum where I could ask an open question of a user, in the middle of a weekday, without knowing if he's online or not and within the hour I get a full breakdown of stats answering the question.

    Probably not.
Okay, next task. Which is the fastest animal over land, in the air and in the water?

Well technically the correct answer is man for all three environments.

However removing technological assistance, the results are as follows.

    Land: Cheetah 70mph

    Air: Peregrine Falcon* 200mph

    Water: Sailfish 68mph

    * But only in a dive. The fastest bird in level flight is the Spine Tailed Swift at 104mph.

Things are great for a few. The irony is that those who are doing well are the ones that ignored all of GBs talk about prudence etc. Those that "did the right thing" are being well and truly shafted.

I'd go for the Cheetah in a fight.

That rather depends on the environment they're fighting in....:D

My objection was not the part that got all the headlines but when he said that the only people affected are those that believe that the state owes them a living. People on modest wages will be affected by increases in tax etc, many of whom don't see a big enough offset from a small mortgage or rent. Plenty of these people aren't claiming and it rankles me that he doesn't realise that.
