If you feed your dog on dried food or complete dried food then go to any rural collective store or animal feed store and get a 15kg sack of Greyhound food for £6-£7.
There's no VAT charged on it as it is for racing greyhounds.
I have fed my lurchers on this for a couple of years and it has everything a dog needs in it.They do love a bit of tinned food or scraps mixed up in it though!
I don't know if it breaches the rules of this forum to say what the make is and where you can get it.
If I am told it's ok then I'll spill the beans!
You will save a lot of money over a year with this.
Regards
Malcolm.

Any food specifically designed for a working dog doesn't carry VAT, and this can make a big difference to the end price - a dog is a dog is a dog as far as the digestive system goes, but beware of the higher protein levels which can make some pet dogs too hyper........Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

My dog thrives on it but as a labrador springer cross he was hyper anyway. I get it delivered and pay £6.50 for 15kg.One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
Just a word of caution though. A complete food designed for working dogs will not be suitable for all breeds of dog. It tends to have a higher carbohydrate content, to give working dogs more energy. If you have a sedentary lap pooch, you will probably find that a food designed for energetic working dogs is likely to result in a weight increase!
Either do your own research on suitable food or take the advice of your vet.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
My border collie is fine with this, he has a digestive system like a rock and never puts on a pound, even if he's being lazy (ok, that doesn't happen often).
On the other hand my German Shepherd is very big and greedy and although she gets a lot of exercise, its more walking by my side or the occasional play, not tearing around like a greyhound like my border collie does.
Tried her briefly on this but she did put on weight, and it's very important with breeds prone to Hip Displasia that you do keep them lean and not overweight at all... so it is a great deal but please check that this would be suitable for your breed of dog as being overweight in some breeds can lead to permanent problems. I use James Wellbeloved, large breed, and it costs £22 for a 15kg sack where I live. It's not a bargain - but neither are huge vets bills and a permanently disabled dog so I pay what I have to that's best for her.
On the other hand I use this for my border collie and it saves a lot of money - glad I didn't get 2 german shepherds!!0 -
The above posters are right. We have a Patterdale.
We are now her 4th owners and shes 10 months old.
She was fed on Gain and Tracer. This dog stands all of 30cm high and can clear a 7 foot fence clear in one go. She doesnt sleep, even at night for no more than an hour.
We decided to take her to the vets when he asked what she was fed on he told us thats the problem. It gives dogs energy to burn well above and beyond what they should have. I didnt want to change ger food when we got her as we were told it could hurt he tummy.
Shes been diagnosed as hyperactive and weve changed her onto Hills Science Plan. Shes a totally different dog.
You can get greyhound maitanace food which they have when they retire which has a lot less protein in them.
We used ot have 2 greyhounds (hence my user name) also met my hubby at a dog track!2007 is my getting slim year
Total weight loss so far is 16llbs:T
Total to go 15 pounds:eek:

Nic£365 in 365 - £2/£3650 -
It's called Supa Greyhound, and it is made by Burgess Supafeeds in Pickering, Yorkshire.
Here in Devon you can get it in Mole Valley Farmers, Mole Avon, Tuckers etc.
Which are Farm collectives and Equestrian Shops.
It's half the price of Bakers Complete and just as good.0 -
The VAT free price applies to all working dog food - not just Greyhound food
Most country store type outlets will have working dog food we use Scatts for our English Springer Spaniel and German Jag Terrier.
Scatts also supply Joint Aid which is very good if your dog has joint problems0
