Didn't they find a VHS recorder in Tutankhamun's tomb?

i find with toddlers that a video is easier for them to handle and feel independant.it also stops and restarts in the same place when they switch the tv off accidently.
When their attention span is low then peraps 5 mins at a time is all they need of a tape and videos are ideal for that.

not everyone can afford to swap to dvd's either.

I agree on that for the ease of toddlers using their own VCR players. I have a 4-year-old neice who has most of the Disney collection on VHS, but now that her video player has given up the ghost, I'm finding it difficult to track down a cheap-ish replacement (bought second-hand ones x 3, all not working once got it home!) and they aren't really on sale now because of the low price for the DVD recorders. It would cost a fortune to replace her collection for Disney DVDs, even with special offers in the shops, so I think I'm going to stick to hunting down an elusive, reasonably priced replacement video player.

Anyway, as many people who have toddlers around may have found out, DVDs are not exactly indestructable....

You can pick up a DVD player for under £20 now and as there's far more scope for what you can play on it and DVD's are better quality and last longer - it's a money saver in the long run.

They dont last long with kids that get them scratched, or broke ect. DVDs have cost us a fortune with DS.

What about the damaged caused to a VCR by a child putting stuff in where the tapes go, or just pulling all the tape out of the cassette? You can't do that with DVD's.

My kid would do all of the above when he was younger.
