Transco enquiry URGENT

Am I correct in thinking that if you smell gas transco dont cost to come out to check it? I'm NOT that desperate to save money but if iI have to pay will have go to the ATM RIGHT NOW. Can anyone do a quick post please? Many thanks.

I'm almost certain its free. Call 0800 111 999 to let them know and they will tell you.

Edit: Picked this off a website
Transco operates their round-the-clock 365-days-a-year emergency service for gas escapes. They will stop an escape in the home or in the street free of charge. If you need a Transco engineer at your property, the engineer will carry out a soundness test at the meter to establish whether there is an escape on the customer side of the emergency control valve. This done, the engineer will inspect gas appliances and installations in the property, evaluating if there is any immediate danger, whether there is an "At Risk" situation, a "concern for safety" or whether the property is safe

I guess that it doesn't cost for them to come out and check everything but if the leak is found to be on "your" side of the connection, i.e. after the meter, then you will be liable for the cost of repair. I had a leak from around the main on/off handle thingy a few years ago and it was repaired free of charge.
Fiscal drag, that's my problem. Too many people dragging on my fiscals.

Thank you. I will call them now. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't embarrased by not having any cash in when they call. Thank you.

I ended up with THREE different companies all arguing over who's liability the repair was last time I had a gas escape!

It's certainly a free call out service to check for leaks. Not sure about who pays for the repairs but they will make it safe free of charge. Incidentally Transco do not exist anymore, it's now National Grid! Some of the networks have been sold off so whoever your "local" network operator is, will come out.
Bit of common sense applies though, the emergency (leak) number is the same nationally, it costs nothing, just don't worry when it's not a "Transco" van that turns up.

Only downside being if you own your property and they say an appliance is unsafe have to get it fixed which can be costly.

Hope you get it sorted, gas is scary, I hate the stuff.

My last contact with them was when my fire was leaking, the Transco guy said was unsafe, council came out said was fixed and put back on, then gas smell was back again, I called them out 2 more times after that and they kept saying look council haven't fixed it. The final time they came out they fixed it and put complaint into council :).
One day I might be more organised...........
