two fillings last week and now my tooth has broken

Hello, i was hoping somebody could help me.

Last week i had two fillings and one of the teeth that was filled has now broken. I was eating a polo today and heard a large chrunch and i picked out a rather large piece of tooth from my mouth. The piece is from the side of the tooth so there is no filling missing. This has never happened before so i am wondering if it is linked to getting the filling in the first place.

Has this happened to anyone before? i have an appointment for friday but hate the dentist and am dreading going back so soon!

  • Yes I have. I once had a filling refilled and not long after the side of the tooth came away. I was warned by the dentist it might happen one day because the tooth was weakened. He built it all up again but I eventually needed a crown because it just crumbled again.

PS: I've never had problems with Polos. My downfall was first a winegum and then a Fruit PAstille...
  • A really good way to build a trusting relationship with your dentist is to hate them. Also, a really good way to ensure you have to keep going to see that person you hate so much is to keep eating sweets.

    Hope you get it fixed.

No - it's linked to the Polos! As was the hole that needed the filling.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
  • I've had exactly the same problem, I'm at the dentist on Monday to get the tooth removed.
