My dh was out of work for some time last year, and eventually got a great job, good prospects, great money.
1 week after starting, he was signed off sick and despite several hospital appts, is still off sick.
He was meant to go back on Monday, but got dd's sickness bug overnight and into yesterday, so was meant to go back tonight.
I have come home from work and he is still sick. But, and this is a BIG but, he is well enough to smoke 20 cigs in the last 24 hours and also eat crisp sandwiches and bowls of cereal yesterday.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am SO petrified that his work are going to have enough of him on the sick and lay him off.
So, what I am going to do, well, try and do, in order to protect (wrong word?) me and the children, is try and find someone who will give me the mortgage in my name only, then I have no financial ties to him. I know it sounds harsh, but I can't do it anymore. I need to provide a secure future for my children and if he can't then its up to me. I don't want to separate from him, just from a financial point of view, I need to be independent so I can provide for the kids.
Is it even possible to get the mortgage in my name only? I only work part time and we have 6 months of arrears on the account due to his redundancy Does he have to sign something? Will I have to re-mortgage, and would it even work with my incomings (app £1300 inc tax credits)
I want to do everything I can to get rid of all the "joint" financial things, the mortgage being the first one, and the most important.
I can't even get across how MAD I feel right now. Even one of the dad's at school who we are quite pally with, remarked this morning "How has he even still GOT his job!" My god!!!!!!!!! It must be bad if other people are noticing it too.
But, my dh just carries on wandering around in his own little ignorant world. He has all these plans for next year, all stuff he wants to do, but I can't seem to get it across to him that if he doesn't have a job, we probably won't even HAVE a HOUSE next year!!!!!!!!!
Is there a smiley for veins throbbing out of your head and a real feeling of wanting to punch the wall?
L xx

Oh dear.
Are you sure he still has a job, and not been let go by his company, but he doesn't want to tell you?
I don't know what to suggest re money and the house / mortgage, but from what you have said I would have thought it unlikely you would get a mortgage on your own.
Have you tried to sit down with him and have a deep long chat?Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100/100miles

You already have arrears. This would prevent most lenders from considering a single application. Those that might would be at extortionate interest, risking further debt, not improving the situation.
DH needs a kick up the proverbial. You know that. See where this thread goes, and maybe show it to him, if others have ideas for him to re--motivate himself.Act in haste, repent at leisure.
