Egg reduced my interest

Hello everyone. This is my first post. Tried to look for this subject so please forgive me if it's already been said..but I wanted to let you guys know that Egg just reduced my interest over the phone.

My loan (stands at around £7K now) was at 7.7%. I asked for a settlement figure to pay it all off and the lady says "why do you want to do that?", so I explain, "I've seen cheaper rates elsewhere".

"Where?" she asks.

"Moneyback at 5.6%"

"We'll match that now for you" she says "Same terms and Conditions?", "yes" she says.

So that's it.

  • Without written confirmation I would be very wary of this or any other offer like this.
Get an online interest checker to check the sums.
  • might try that with my HSBC loan this weekend

Don't bother, HSBC don't price match.
  • just be wary when you change stuff about with egg - if it changes your final payment date it seems to break their system, they lost my final payment for a week and got really shirty chasing me for it then had to refund over half of it the following week as they miscalculated and I'd overpaid. All worked out ok in the end after a couple of snotty phonecalls but just keep an eye on them when you come to pay the loan off :)

Last week, I received a letter confirming the amount has been reduced...so I happy about that.
