Ulster Bank

I used to worik for a building society, and there was a requirement that two people opened the post, and kept a record of all post received, so that if anyone had been removing money - or letters of complaint! - there was less chance of it being covered up. You could ask the bank if they keep a daily record of post received or what their procedures are for opening post, as they may have inadequate internal controls.
I've never found the Ulster Bank very efficient - I was being added as a cheque signatory at one stage. It was a limited company with 2 directors and I was coming in as company secretary. The bank first gave us the wrong mandate (for a partnership) and assured us that it was OK. Then it was returned from Head Office, we filled in the correct mandate another 3 times as it was lost between the branch and head office twice!0 -
Sounds fairly typical - used to be a good bank but the wasters who are running it these days (into the ground) are beyond redemption!0

i used to work with ulsterbank and if they told you they only keep it for two weeks then they are either lying or breaking their own rules, they have to ekkp it for much longer than that! im sur eif you got the police to ask for the cctv on your behlaf it would magically re-appear pretty quickly...0 -
I used to work for Ulster Bank too, and its because of what I have seen on the inside that I refuse to have anything to do with them now, I wouldn't trust them with anything. Behind the scenes the whole place is chaos, or it certainly was when I worked there. Most of the staff did their best, but the jokers running the place would change the procedures on a whim from one day to the next, so no one was ever really sure what they were doing. Added to that, new staff member's training usually amounted to plonking them on a seat and telling them to do their best, and pick it up as they went along. The whole place is a horror story, both from a customer service point of view, and as an employer.
But, to get back to the original topic of the thread.....if something was lodged into the fast lodgements box during opening hours, it should have been opened by two members of staff at once, as someone said earlier. If it was just posted into the letterbox, it would be much easier for a dishonest staff member to pocket it when no one was looking. I would echo what others have said, don't take this lying down. Don't let them fob you off without a proper investigation, both into the missing money and into their poor customer service.0 -
Hi
As quoted earlier you need to take this as far as you can go. The fact that someone has admitted that other monies have gone missing is more than sufficient for your complaint to be upheld. They should have sent you a Financial Ombudsman brochure and you need to go back to them advisign you will be taking up the case with them. All banks are made to pay approx £800 for the Ombudsman to look into their case regardless of the outcome so that might get them moving! You also need to get as much in writing from them regarding the CCTV situation. i also find it hard to believe they only hold it for two weeks. If the branch has an ATM outside the CCTV from it may cover you going up to branch and may be sufficient to back up your version.
Good luck but dont let it go!!-Request a written version of their procedures!0
