The ' Energy Wizard ' Energy Saving Device

Hi Everyone...hope you are well.

The reason for my post today is to point out a number of 'short comings' with a new energy saving device called 'Energy Wizard' now available across the UK but mainly via AGROS.

(I have worked in the electronics field for many many years).

As per instruction leaflet which comes inside box, you will not (ever) get a saving of 4% on an electric kettle which is a 'resistive
load using a 'capacitor' which is what is inside the so called 'Energy
Wizard! Also, the capacitor is very small and may only 'treat' approx
300 Kwh (max) overall energy consumption per month which is way
below the national average (These facts should be made clear in the
instruction leaflet - Made in China..just about says it all really!

All the best and happy Ecoing!

There have been dozens of these so called 'energy saving' devices marketed under various names.

Essentially the purport to correct the power factor of a resistive load by use of a capacitor.(no easy way to explain power factor to the layman I am afraid)

The irony is that even if they did save a minimal amount of power, it would not matter to a domestic user as we are billed in kWh(which is what the meter measures) and power factor correction only affects KVA.
