Getting paint out of a fabric sofa?

I (ok, my son) managed to get cream emulsion on my black sofa cover. He got hold of the roller when I went to answer the door and went to town with it . I tried to get some of it off using a sponge and some washing up liquid and water, and although it got some of the paint out it also faded the color on the fabric...

Do I continue with the soap and water and then attempt to dye the sofa cover (its removable) or is there something else I can try?

Thanks in advance :)

    Hi Katiesmummy,

I'm sorry but i dont have a straightforward answer for you but hopefully a bump up will help a bit.

Contrary to popular belief, an emulsion paint isn't water based, so is not easily removed (dissolved) by water. It also sounds like there could be rather a lot of it if your son took the roller to it!.
I would be inclined to grab some sort of heavy duty cleaning stuff and then dye it back to Black after i'd got it all out. There are those little stain devils you can buy, so one specifically for that perhaps?.

Maybe someone else with some great ideas will be along soon to hopefully help you out. I hear stardrops is very good!. ;)

  • According to Kim and Aggie, for emulsion and water based paint stains:

Sponge immediately with plenty of warm water.Dried paint can be scrapped/picked off,but is difficult to wash off.

  • Thanks for the replies- I will try my best to get the paint out and then dye the cover whilst crossing my fingers!
