Memory foam topped mattress - good idea or just too warm ?

I worry that this memory foam idea will just make the bed too warm and even mean you need this expensive Coolmax or Climasmart add on. Seems silly to pay more for memory foam and then pay even more to keep it at a regular temperature.

Any experience with / without memory foam and / or Coolmax / Climasmart ?

We purchased a pocket sprung mattress with an integral memory foam top last december and I don't find it significantly warmer than our previous 'standard' mattress. I do sometimes wake up hot at night, and fling a leg out from under the duvet, but I have always done that as I like to go to sleep fully wrapped up.

We purchased our divan (with 4 storage draws) via a company on eBay for a shade under £300, they were really good with delivery as well. If you want the details - just PM me.

For me its too pricey. Have you tried sleeping with a dressing gown on? that will keep you warm. Like you said, if you are gonna have to pay even more money to keep it a normal temperature than it is a bit pointless - One positive about those things are, they improve your sleep (apparently) my friend has one and he says that he gets a wonderful nights sleep because he just sinks into it. Its your choice though, personally I wouldn't.. I considered it but I just put a blanket underneath my sheet on top of my mattress, its cosy, I sink into it and it's warm

The problem with toppers is that they go on top of your existing mattress quilting. So the existing quilting insulates the topper and stopst the heat being dissipated as easily.

I didn't like memory foam because it used to wake me up overheated so I now have a pocket spring with latex. Much better.

As long as the memory foam layer is 2" deep, and the mattress contains full size steel pocket springs (not reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs), then a memory foam mattress shouldn't be that hot. Unless of course you are sensitive to heat, in which case I would advise a climate control fabric like Climasmart or Outlast. If you are very sesitive to heat then I would recommend pocket sprung wil latex as emmell bought.
