Thanks for posting this - I was about to post similar.

OK - so we've got mortgage approved, should be exchanging contracts in the next few days with a view to completing in the following week (empty property so we can push to complete that bit faster)... I'm having massive worries they're going to decide to pull all loans that they haven't handed the cash over for between us exchanging and completing so we'd be locked in and liable but sans-mortgage... is this a realistic worry or just homebuyer irrationality here?

Irish friend's view is that the BoI is probably the safest one over there at the moment, and that the situation's actually been dire for ages, but it's suddenly hit the media for no real new reason (and in his words "we're never the most optimistic nation anyway").

Hubby's called the mortgage bods and they've been briefed to advise that the Irish banking problem doesn't affect anything. Sounds like ours is all clear and just ready to go once the sale goes through - got the contract this morning - eeek!
