Santander
Hello all,
Please can someone advise what my wife should do next.
She has a car on a Santander loan (she thought it was hire purchase) and is unable to meet £200 per month payments. She was conned into trading in her old car and they just kept mounting the interest and repayments each time.
I have contacted CCCS and they advised to write to Santander advising of the situation.
I have advised in writing twice that she will be repaying £10 per month and provided details of income and out goings. What's more I have advised that she came off maternity to find her job was not available. She is basically living off benefits until she can find another job.
She is concerned and says she wants to pay more but if she does this we cannot meet household bills.
Can someone please advise what do do next? Do we:
1) Pay them more? (won't they expect to be paid more if we do this?)
2) Send them another letter stating £10 per month and keep paying it. I'm just tempted to keep sending them letters.
3) Let them take her to court. She scared they will do this, however, they won't get any more money out of her.
Many thanks
Nick

You say you have written to them twice saying she will pay £10 a month. Have they replied?
Has your wife actually contacted them? It is her loan after all.
£10 a month isn't going to get anywhere near to settling a £200 a month payment so what has happened to the car?
Why can she not sell it to repay the loan?0 -
OK forget that - I have just read your other posts!
I think you are making things unnecessarily complicated.
It seems your wife has taken out a number of finance agreements and it is her responsibility to look at what she is signing.
It also appears you cannot afford the car so sell it and make a more realistic offer to Santander. I'm not sure how you think offering £10 a month is a "generous" offer as mentioned in another post - so what have Santander said?0 -
Thanks for your reply chalkie99,
They have replied twice saying they don't accept £10 per month.
I know this is not anywhere near the £200 they are asking for but it's a temporary measure until I get a better job and she finds new employment.
We hope to sell the car and with the proceeds get a very cheap banger (needed for kids and for her to get a job) and give the rest to Santander. It may leave her with £4000 left to pay but until our income is better there is not much more we can do.
Our current situation is as such all my wages go on the mortgage and her benefits pay for food and some household bills. We don't have enough to pay creditors the amounts they want and we barely cover basic food costs. It's all pretty bad but at least I have a job.0
