Well I am sorry I live in the tropical southwest and you appear to live somewhere near the arctic as your gas usage is three times more than mine which I find is quite an amazing difference, all I can suggest is you move to a warmer climate.0 -
I also live in Scotland and I use more than twice the amount of gas than my brother who lives in a similar house in Reading.
You do need more heat when the outside temperature drops.
From reading through this post the OP is being told by some posters that he is using more gas than he should.
OK his posting style leaves a lot to be desired but I thought this site was all about moneysaving by paying the least amount for something, not saving money by doing without.
After all if I didn't put my TV on for about 10 hours a day I would save about 10 or 11p a day. No doubt there will be posters who will say I only have my TV on for 5 minutes so I am not wasting 10 p a day.
That is not the point. The point is to pay the least amount for having it on for 10 hours a day.
And 18,500 kWh of gas for heating that is on for 14 -15 hours a day is less than average for a 3 bed semi according to this web site http://www.gare.co.uk/gas.htm which is most likely based on consumption in England.
I think the OP was just happy that he had reduced his consumption and wished to share it with other, perhaps he went about it the wrong way.
I have also managed to reduce my gas consumption after increasing my loft insulation to 510 mm using B&Qs £1 a roll insulation. 3 layers of 170 mm layers.
And I also prefer the temperature in my house to be about 21 - 23 deg celcius0 -
The general feeling was that it was a wind up, everything that was put forward as a suggestion he just poo pooed and threw it back in our faces which is why it is now a dead thread. His house was about average for a property in Scotland so their would be on the face of it scope for improvement however the naure of the discussion was that it never got onto things like what gas boiler and what efficiency could be achieved. We were all willing to give as much useful input as possible but some people can't be helpedYou scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0
