Rotisserie Chicken

Options
a few weeks ago I bought a rotisserie chicken at Asda. When cleaning the chicken I broke the breast bone and the blood splattered all over me  This isnt the first time I've bought an undercooked chicken from Asda.

Anyway been put off buying from Asda so thought I'd buy one from Costco yesterday. No blood, but next to the bone was very pink in places and not as cooked as it should have been. I had to put it in the micorwave for 20 mins.

You'd think I'd have learnt to cook my own after this, but I don't always have time.

Anyone else regularly experience this?

  • Nope, but then I wait for them to be marked down at the end of the day. Fully cooked and cheaper.
  • I've never had a marked down one, think my local store are too mean and dont cook enough!
  • I have had undercooked chicken from tesco. I don't buy them anymore as they can be expensive and I don't really enjoy them.

Not sure it's wise to use the microwave to finish cooking the chicken though..

Why buy a cooked chicken and pay the extra for something under or over cooked ?

If you need to cook a chicken fast , SPATCHCOCK it ! Cut down the back or breast bone ( your choice for presentation) open it out, rub with oil ,herbs , spices etc and either cook on the top shelf of a hot oven or grill turning 2 or 3 times. Takes about 25 minutes for perfection .

  • According to The Bloke, who has worked as an engineer for companies serving ASDA, Sainsburys and Tesco,

    NEVER BUY ROTISSERIE CHICKEN.

    Ever.

And check very carefully underneath the Bakery displays for mouse droppings every time you think of buying bread from them.

He agrees with shammyjack - cook it yourself.

I have one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/George-Foreman-10039-Baby-Rotisserie/dp/B00008WFCZ - it's fab for doing my own rotisserie chicken / pork / lamb / beef etc, etc it tastes so much better than the shop bought ones, plus I can add my own spices and flavouring as it's cooking. Had it for a few years now and use it every week at least once.
mmmmmmm chicken and jacket pots for dinner me thinks today :)

That looks like a great product, didn't even know it existed, but has it been discontinued does anyone know, 'cause I can't find anywhere with it in stock online, only two used ones on ebay!
  • always buy fresh n cook it yourself, if you use roasting bags which are usually 6 for quid you dont need to baste it just put it in for time needed and leave it to do the work. makes the nicest chicken by far
