Hello,
writitng this on behalf of my sister. She works part time [16 hours a week] and doesnt claim any benefits [i.e income support]. She gets child tax and working tax.

My neices dad died when they were not together so hes out the question.

Well now my neice has expenses coming up at school that my sister can not afford. Does anyone know if she can get any grants/loans anywhere that will help out? She has already had a proverdent loan so that isnt a option.

She has been down the council today as the school told her that there was alot of people going there for help, but they didnt understand what she was on about lol

So any idea where she can turn?

  • First stop CAB or there is a website called I think something like ''entitled to'' which basically gives you an idea of what she can claim.

What kind of trip? Is it part of the curriculum? If so, I believe they can't exclude your niece from taking part even if your sister doesn't pay. Even if it's not, I would explain the situation to the school and ask how they can help e.g. your sister could pay a small amount a week until it's paid. How much is it?

Another option, if it's a "fun" trip could you pay instead of getting her an xmas pressent?
  • Is this not the sort of thing that Child Benefit is there to pay for?

    How much is the trip?

its 280. Not untl september next year. But the school wants £80 before xmas.

She has worked every day since my neice was 6weeks. The dad has never paid a penny [they were together 6 years and he cheated on her while she was pregnant].

I just feel really sorry for her. After all the bills ect she has about a 100 to live on a month. Yes child benefit is suposed to be used for stuff liek this, but my neice also needs feeding ect

Shes asked the school, No help. If she didnt work and on benfits the trip would only be £60. Its called bratton park i dont know if anyone else knows about this sort of trip? x
