Protein tablets for vegetarians?

I am considering going vegetarian and have been told that I should replace the protein and vitamins that are provided by meat with tablets. I was wondering where I could buy these tablets and if they are expensive?

  • You shouldn't need to as long as you have a healthy varied diet. You can get plenty of protein from nuts, legumes, milk, cheese, tofu etc

If you do want to get protein though buy it from myprotein.co.uk get a whey powder or casein powder. Whey is faster digesting and usually taken post workout, casein is much slower digesting and a lot of people take it before bed or as a meal replacement.

The tablets your friend is talking about are probably BCAAs, branched chain amino acids. They are the essential amino acids, the ones that your body needs to get from food, the other amino acids can be produced by your body.
Last time I bought them I got them from Holland and Barrett because they were buy one get one free. If they don't have an offer on then I just buy them from myprotein.
  • I've been veggie for 20 years and never had a protein issue... can easily be acquired from a balanced varied diet... vitamin B12 is the thing you have to be aware of - Marmite is your friend for this though - as long as you love it rather than hate it!
  • Ah thanks both of you! :) and I actually love Marmite so much I could eat it on it's own so I don't think that's a problem haha. I will definitely look at that website, and go to Holland and Barrett... One thing I could do is eat more milk and cheese, so I will do those too. Thank you :)
