You still have over 15 months left on your fix and if you can stay as you are!
By April 2012 your child will be one and you may have found another job.
In the mean time build up your savings and enjoy the pregnancy and your new baby

The boss said he wanted to keep me but end of year cost cutting means he can't which I understand; he knows I'm pregnant and it's nothing to do with that.

So, he knows you're pregnant (Excellent News, Nice one!) and claims that he wants to keep you on the payroll but due to cost cutting he is going to let you go....

Sounds like discrimination as your are pregnant and constructive dismissal to me, trying to save himself lots of pennies...

Do you have any union at your place of work, If not I would be seeking further legal advice if I was you just on this basis...
ORIGINAL MORTGAGE AMOUNT £106,454.00 (Started Sept 2007)

BofE +0.19% Tracker Repayment Offset Mortgage Discounted Sept 07-10 then increased to BofE +0.62% until 2027

Given that she's a contractor. It'll be a hard case to prove.
i.e her post is permanent and she's only fired because she's pregnant.

Santander are a nightmare with mortgage applications - they make you jump through hoops, take an age to do their bit and then will refuse if it's not going to be beneficial to them. They accepted us, and then when we adjusted the parameters a bit they decided that it was too affordable for us(!) and rejected us on the mistaken judgement that it was short-term lending. Oh, and unlike most other providers they charge the arrangement fee (£1250) up front at the beginning of the process, and in our case tried to hang onto it until our IFA threatened them with the ombudsman

I have > 60% deposit but only tell the bank that I've got 40%.
And I'm only borrowing 2x my income so I had a gut feeling they won't like it.

The ways of only buying what you can afford are not exactly appreciated by lenders who want to milk you for all they can.

Thanks, but that's not the issue and I don't really care about the job (as it happens I may already have found another one in a different department - should hear about it tomorrow). We're not in dire straights without me having a job - we actually planned so we could afford me to give up work and have a baby - it'll just be more affordable if we can change our mortgage and me not working doesn't help the situation. We just don't know the best way to do this as Santander just seems to say 'No'.

Thanks everyone for all your posts, we have a resolution, which was....

Get DH to call Santander. He asked to swop, he wasn't asked any questions, nothing to prove with investments, application is going through with no anticipated problems.

Clearly should have done that in the first place!

We had another win yesterday as well - I've found another job - I drop 1/3 of my salary, but it's better than nothing.

    :T
