opting out does not cut down on junk mail.
instead of getting targeted mail for you, you get untargeted mail addressed to "the occupier."
and Kenshaz, opting out does not mean you are not on the voters roll, it means that nobody (except for credit lenders) can see your details, and people beleive they will get less junk mail.
IN my opinion the stupid !!!!!! from Wakefield that went to court with the result of the opt out being introduced should be shot !Karma is a wonderful thing.

i was doing canvassing for electoral register. although it says u r required by law the canvassers cannot force u to give details. nothing will happen to u if u dont. the canvassers expect quite alot of people to refuse to give details they are just people drafted in off the streets by local council and paid a pound a time if they get uour signature they get fifty pence if u refuse. depends on the individual canvasser how forceful they are. In my case i accepted completely if someone wanted to refuse to speak to me or asin most cases even answer the intercom. The council is required by law to make two visits and the majority of people on my rounds did not want to know out of 300 forms i got about sixty signed and the rest were no answer to my visits or refuse to give details. some even got a bit angry at me so i did not push it only a quid after all!!!:j I sometimes give myself admirable advice, but am incapable of taking it.0
