Agency Cruelly Built My Hopes Up - And Shattered Them!

OP, it's possible that you use MSE as a means for venting so you don't explode in real life. However, I do sometimes wonder if you come across the same way in real life as you do on these forums - which would explain why you're not getting anywhere with your applications.
If you think you're hiding your emotions and your attitude from the consultants you speak to and/or the employers you approach directly, perhaps you're not as good at that as you thought.
Finding a job is difficult, I acknowledge that. But I genuinely think you need to adopt a more philosophical approach to it - if you stop seeing every single rejection as a personal slight, you might feel less angry. The anger seems to be clouding your judgement - really, what is the advantage to you in the long run of actively pursuing a complaint against this recruitment agency? Complaining burns your bridges for future opportunities and also requires a huge amount of your energy which could be better spent in finding a job elsewhere.
Someone once said to me, "Don't take it personally" and that advice has helped me through a lot of difficult work related situations. If you get a rejection, if you get ignored... honestly, OP, don't take it personally. Move on. If you don't deal with each disappointment as it happens and bounce back quickly, it will hurt your chances of eventually getting a job.

Thanks for your reply to my posting about the employment agency. You made some good points, and you are so right when you advise me not to take such knockbacks personally. Though it hurts like hell - well, rejection always does, doesn't it - I will try not to take it too personally, and will continue to apply to employers directly in the hope that, eventually, I will have a bit of luck.
Thanks again for your kind advice.
All the best
