Flights to Japan

Hi,

I'm going to Japan in February for a few months and wondered if anyone had any tips for finding a cheap deal on my flights? I could have got a return for £500 last month with BA but as my plans weren't definite at that point, I couldn't do it. How likely is it that BA or any other reputable company will have another sale in the next few months, allowing me to get near the £500 mark again?

Thanks a lot...and any general tips about Japan will also be welcome!

Daniel

  • I was looking recently and was getting fares at just over £500 with Swiss on Expedia for may. That would mean a change in Zurich which we wouldn't mind as we would be flying from manchester so would have to change somewhere anyway.
we have love enough to light the streets.
  • What about Oasis airlines for £260 rtn incl tax to HK and then buy a flight from HK to Narita with either Japan airlines/Cathay Pacific/Dragonair/All Nippon/United/Northwest?

Thanks I was thinking about a stopover somewhere, but ideally not Hong Kong as I was there a couple of years ago.

puffinmuffin...thanks for that, £500 sounds good as I'd like to fly from Manchester as well. Will check it out...
  • Ebookers are offering to fly with SAS for £563 incl tax.

If you want to know for sure about sales at BA have a look on the flyertalk forum. (https://www.flyertalk.com)

If you are staying over 30 days you miss out on the very cheapest offers. I trawled around
for February flights to Japan (and got a BA one :j ) but noticed opodo have flights with
emirates to either Osaka or Nagoya from Manchester for £478 but the return flight is
5 hours longer than the same route on other airlines :(
  • Useful tip if you intend using ATM machines in Japan:-

If you're finding that your VISA/MASTERCARD or DEBIT CARD is not being accepted in a lot of ATMs, it's a good idea to use the cash machines in the Japanese Post Offices.

This is especially true if you're using a Nationwide Visa Debit Card (thus avoiding outrageous 1.50 charge per transaction plus 2.75% charge on the exchange rate).
  • Have you looked at Japan airlines? I travelled to Oz with them a couple of years ago and they were cheaper than some other well known airlines. Also, I was told by an ex-air steward that JAL is the best airline in the world and steward/ess strive to be part of their cabin crew. The flight I had was excellent and you can watch take off and landing through the TV screens in the head rests. I'd definately travel with them again.
