cleaning trainers

Hi just wondered if anyone ever cleans their trainers anymore ... I have a favourite pair of pink trainers and I have managed to scuff the toes ... I have put previous trainers through the washing machine but these have a sort of white plastic stripe going through them and I am not sure if they would wash ... they were from ASDA ... anyway any ideas would be gratefully received

I've washed trainers in the washing machine for years. Always tied them in a pillowcase and put them in with a few towels to limit them banging around in the drum. Just do them on a low temp wash so that it doesn't damage any adhesive etc.0

Hi, I've just got a new w. machine and I'm determined not to use it to wash trainers, so I'm going back to using JIF and a stiff nail brush and old toothbrush!! Works well!!

What danage would they do? Just take out the laces. I've done it for years and never had a problem ... touch wood ;-)0

Washing trainers in the washing machine can drastically affect the support & cushioning, which then reduces the life of the trainer substantially.
If you are only wearing them occasionally & not for serious sport/exercise, then this is not especially important - it just means they won't last as long.
I find the best thing to clean my trainers with are baby wipes!0 -
I've put trainers in the washing machine before and it hasn't damaged either. However, I wouldn't put my running shoes anywhere near the washing machine.0

I usually put mine in the washer and has done them no harm either but if I havn't got time I use baby wipes gets them pretty clean0

Punch make something called 'trainer cleaner gel' it's suitable for all colours of canvas, cotton, nubuck, nylon and suede.
I've always used this on trainers and they come up well..unless they're really bad then they get chucked in the washerLaughter is the sun

oh well here goes ... I will try the baby wipe suggestion first and then go for the washing machine solution ... got nothing to loose I guess as I am not a runner and as the trainers did not cost a great deal it will be worth it if it works ...
I will let you know what happens ...

I think that washing trainers in a machine probably reduces their life expectancy, but that is probably because I expect them to last too long :-)0
