To those who are applying for 20+ a day dare I ask what you are applying for?

I am finding it exceedingly difficult to find more than one or two a week which I feel I am a suitable candidate for - unfortunately I am not a carer or a cleaner!

I think that in this climate i had decided what transferable skills i had for any job that was advertised and i applied, i can say it was quite easy to apply for atleast 10 job a week.

am looking for general a/cs work, or anything office based- no good at sales, not qual'd for care work, and poor c/h puts downer on bank work!

I have done delivery job before, but unsocial hours / crappy pay was doing me (and car) no favours.

am checking job sites twice a day, local papers / free magazines, sending out spec cv's as well. also doing awork wanted ds on gumtree.

will consider ANYTHING legal, full time, and worthwhile..

  • It's very normal not to get replies after an initial application - less so after you've had human contact with the employer (e.g. phone interview, face-to-face interview, assessment centre, etc) but that does happen too.

If you've not heard back after a reasonable length of time, or a few weeks after the closing date if one was given, I think it's fair enough to assume you didn't get the job and write that one off.

To an extent, I think being ignored feels worse than being rejected, but all you can do is keep going. Sometimes you're up against better candidates, in which case, there's little you could have done. But if you are not hearing back from a significant number of applications, it may be time to take stock and consider whether you need to change the way you're answering the questions.
  • I think it's really frustrating not to get replies, I get the reason from the work point of view - lots of applicants and all that but somedays I've been promised a reply and still nothing. I had a telephone interview and he said I'd hear within a day if I was successful or not - never heard again. Mind you, my friend from school had an interview, heard nothing so called them for interview feedback, chatted and they offered him the job! So it can be good news. But I hate the waiting.
