Hi everyone I have just moved to a new house after a clean and fuss free divorce! i have been using my £9000 halifax overdraft to the limit every month (not spending 9k per month month!) to survive over the last two years along with a few credit card (£11000) anyway i do have a sensable streak in me and managed to pay off in full the credit cards (along with buying a house with a 38k deposit) so i think i have covered some positive ground over the last few months, the last thing i need to deal with is the halifax over draft, i pay around £2600 into the account as salary, i contacted the halifax asking if and when was the overdraft being reviewed, in a nice ish way they told me to get lost and contact them on the 20th of december to find out if they intend pulling the plug, here is my question: I have managed to save £5000 to put torwards the halifax overdraft but feel they want to pull the overdraft to zero (then reccomend one of there horrible loans) which leaves me with a 4k shortfall i cant pay on demand, no one will talk to me about working together over a period of time to bring the overdraft down seems like they just want to punish me in late december, any ideas on how i should deal with these muppets? i thought i did well to save £5000 to start working the overdraft down? anyway sorry for the massive post post and have a good weekend all! (my credit rating should be ok as i just got a mortgage and am not or never been in arrears for anything) cheers!

    Hi
do you still have any of the credit cards? Do any of these cards allow Super Balance Transfers? (Such as MBNA card). If you do have one of these and have 4k available credit it would be better to get 4k paid into your bank account and put it on a card then you can pay off the overdraft in full.

  • I have a Virgin card at 0% which allows me to make transfers to a current account, would you be able to get the same and pay off the Hailfax once and for all?

Also perhaps it would be sensiable to open another bank account in case they do pull the plug at least you won't have all of your wages taken if they do.
