Last year was my first Christmas on my own and due to suffering from depression I didn't want to buy a Christmas tree / decorate my home. This year I'm looking to bring Christmas into my home but as I'm on a very limited budget I'm looking for a cheap but lovely tree, lights and decorations - can anyone suggest anything?

Edit: I'm looking for a small tree as I only have a small apartment.

I got a fab 2nd Christmas tree for my dining room last year from Argos, it was £9.99 from their Value range. It was a 6 foot one but not too bushy, just right for a corner. (They did a 5 foot version too but it was absolutely nowhere near as nice, it looked very sparse.)

I bought a 3ft black one from Woolies before it closed. I think it cost £5. I decorated it with white lights and jewel coloured baubles (purple, cerise, bright blue). It is very nice and doesn't look morose just cos it's black. :) It looks pretty expensive actually. You should be able to get something similar. White lights are as cheap as chips and you can buy the jewel coloured decorations in packs from Asda (well they had them last year - not ventured into this years decorations yet)

Thanks so much for this Jackie. Just popped to Tesco and they had the 3ft black for £2.50 (reduced from £5)!!

Now just need to find white lights and those jewel coloured decorations :)

It may be worth posting on Freecycle, someone may be changing their colour scheme or something and have spare decs up for grabs?

Try pound shops for cheap decorations and also Poundstretchers, B & M, Home Bargains-those kind of shops are very reasonable.

I second pound shop options. They have some nice baubles etc too. Tesco had cheap xmas trees, 3 foot ones in Skipton last week. Lights if you got to what is poundstretcher now called ? then they're like a 5er for 200 lights. Have a fab xmas this year xx
