How to beat the VAT rise?

Got my first Airtricity bill through via email this morning and they'd estimated my meter reading...way too high of course! But it got me thinking, I've effectively now prepaid some of my electricity at the current VAT rate (17.5%) instead of paying the new VAT rate (20%) on it next year.
So in light of that, does anyone have any other suggestions on ways to save a bit. Obviously this is all about buying ahead so I'm thinking things a bit more subtle than just filling your oil tank on 31st December.

Domestic electricity and gas are on a different rate of VAT, which is 5%.
This is NOT increasing at all in January 2010.
Only businesses pay VAT at 17.5% on electricity and gas.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
