Post Office Savings chaos

My wife opened an online savings account with the Post Office as they are offering a good rate of interest with instant access. Big mistake! She was transferring money in to the account by transfer from one account and by card from another. The Post Office web site crashed. As the result the Post Office took the transferred money twice from one account and not at all from the card transfer. When we rang a week later to check there was no apology, a casual comment that a lot of people had suffered the double transfer and they had no idea whether the card transfer would be taken or not! Naturally we decided to pull the money out but guess what? The Post Office website crashed and now we have no idea whether it is being transferred back to our other account or not.

Just as we thought it could not get worse, it did. We rang the Post office and even though the money was in the account, had gone out of our current account and and half of it was never authorised to be taken by the Post Office, we could not move it back to our current account "until Monday" No apologies, confirmation it had happened to a lot of people only, "It's a new system" as an excuse. If it is new and unreliable, they should not had launched to deal with people's money until it was right. :mad:0

We rang the Post Office for the money to be returned to our current account and stories changed. Firstly the operator said he could not pay the money back to our account, we had to do it on line, even though the one on Saturday was doing this for us. He also said the money would not be cleared to move until 18th November, even though on Saturday we were told Monday 1tth. Eventually spoke to a manager who was the first one to use the word "apologise" and advised we should contact our bank and get the direct debit reversed by indemnity.
Note even apart from the double taking of the money and the pour customer service, money we paid in on 6 November was not going to be available to us until 18 November and would then take 5 days to move back.0 -
We have managed to retrieve some of the money by way of direct debit indemnity arranged by our bank, but apparently if two direct debits go out on the same day, only one of them can be reetrieved by way of indemnity, so still working on getting the rest of the money out of the Post Office.0

Well we hope that eventually we have moved the money out of the control of the dreadful Post Office, though still probably three days before it is all cleared in to our current account. It has taken from 6th November till now, 19th - waste of time, effort, phone calls and interest earning days - they might offer 2.9% but for customer care they rank way down at the bottom. Complaint being submitted0
