There is no conclusive evidence that they are any good.

Rechargeable Braun Oral B in about the £25-£30 price range is about as good as you can get in the value for money stakes, and change the head every couple of months.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Well I have one (an Ionic toothbrush) and it works brilliantly! It also works out pretty cheap because you can get replacement heads for about £5 for two.

It just feels like a normal toothbrush but leaves your teeth feeling really really clean. I tried one because I don't like the vibrations from an electric brush (sensitive teeth), and I would now not use anything else.

My dentist is pretty pleased too - no plaque at all to scrape off at my last visit.

Where did you get it from?
Do you use toothpaste or just brush your teeth without.

There are a few threads on here about them if you use the search engine. I bought one from ebay for around £10 but the instructions were in German but the pictures were pretty self explanatory. I don't use it often enough to notice any majory changes as I don't use it as my main toothbrush and I keep forgetting to keep the metal plate wet and with a finger on it!

I got mine from Ebay for about £12 - same as this type here:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hyg-Ionic-Electric-Toothbrush-/330371665335?pt=UK_HealthBeauty_DentalCare_RL&hash=item4cebaf8db7

I use toothpaste with it, but you don't need to - I just prefer the taste of toothpaste.

I find the easiest thing to do before using it is just to run my hand under the tap first, so that whichever part of my hand is against the metal pad bit is always wet - you need this to make the ionic bit work. Then just use it as a normal toothbrush.

All the ones I have seen have been around £10 to £15 - I can't believe anyone is selling them for £50! :eek:This Hyg one works fine for me. The replacement heads are about £6 for two heads (from Ebay), so they're cheap too, and I didn't change mine for about 3 months (probably should have changed it sooner, but I forgot because the old one still felt fine). One this I have noticed is that I don't brush so hard as with a normal manual toothbrush, because my teeth feel so clean with just a gentle but thorough brushing that I don't feel the need to 'scrub' - so this must make the heads last longer too.

BTW, if it turns out that you really don't like the ionic bit (although honestly there is no more sensation then just cleaning with a normal manual toothbrush, except that your teeth feel really really clean afterwards), then you can always just use the toothbrush as an ordinaly manual one anyway (just don't put a wet finger on the metal plate). So the small cost to try it out won't be wasted either way.

    Hope this helps!
