Could you recommend a good hairdryer?

Could anyone of you ladies recommend me a good hairdryer? I am going to buy one for my partner as a Christmas present but being a male with relatively short hair I never used anything like this myself and do not know which one is good. I would prefer one which lasts long, comfortable to use, compact and good value for money.
Thanks in advance.

  • I got a Tresemme one from Boots about 18 months ago, was about £20-£25. Really powerful with different heat settings, quite compact (not too big to shove in the suitcase for going on holiday!) I cant remember its exact name, and I'm not at my house to check it! But I would really recommend it!
  • I am looking for one too at the moment and this one gets great reviews and it has a 3m cord. I am thinking of buying it because it is a really good price too. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4433556.htm

......but you're not using it! What's her hair like? One of the main criteria many women look for in a hairdryrer is power!

I know it sounds ungrateful, but I really dislike having this kind of stuff chosen for me. I want to hold it, feel the weight, check it out, make sure the buttons aren't in an irritating place ( like one I had that was easy to knock the buttons by accident) In other words, I would want to choose it myself. Sorry :s

    I'm with Bronnie.
the best type of hairdryer depends on the hair type. My hair is thick and naturally curly and I like a hairdryer that isn't too powerful but does have a high heat setting. I also need a dryer with a diffuser - if you bought me one without a diffuser I'd have to go out and buy one and hope I could get one that fitted that particular dryer.Otherwise the dryer would never get used.
Hope this isn't getting too girlie detail oriented but I'm sure you get the drift...If you must buy her one, I think you need to ask her specifically which one she wants.

I bought one called "hair envy" can't remember what company makes it but its very powerful and lasts for ages. I normally can kill a hair dryer within a year as my hair takes ages to dry and I always burn out the motor but this one is going strong after 3 years and no sign of cutting out at all!

  • I'm back at home now! Mine is a Tresemme/Philips 2000 watt salon control ionic, if that is any help!
  • i bought a babyliss one last year that is great (can't remember anything more specific though - got it when it was on special offer!) - but i do remember reading a which? article in a waiting room and it was singing the praises of anti-static ionising stuff that some have (before then, i'd assumed it was jargon and bluff!).

personally, i wouldn't be desperately concerned about trying out a hairdryer before i bought it - i'd read the info and look at the pictures but have never opened up boxes to try them out. mine has 3 heat settings(with a cold blast!) and 2 speed settings, and came with a diffuser and a thing on the end (a concentrator?!). it should be easy enough to find one that comes with as many options as possible. i need a powerful one to straighten and then a lower power to diffuse, so having multiple settings covers all bases.
