    How would they do that?

Via the undersea cable links-there is one from France and another from The Netherlands I believe? I think this facility is already used on a regular basis to supply peak rate demand in the South East?
Presumably the French have some over-supply, given that they've covered the country with nuclear power stations.
You can probably tell when EDF are using French electricity by a subtle whiff of garlic emanating from your sockets... :D
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

:T I look forward to this phenomena. A sort of french styled plug in air freshener without the plug in. :rotfl:

I've just had an email from British Gas which tells me about the price rise and then states..

"If you wish to terminate your contract for the supply of gas or electricity (or both) to avoid these changes, please contact us on 0800 980 1917 within 20 working days of receiving this notice. Lines are open 8am-6pm Monday to Friday. You must arrange alternative supply."

So we have 20 days. I would hope that my move to EDF will have taken place by then although it's probably cutting it fine. I suppose I'd better call them. They also say in their mail that I am on Fixed Price 2012 or something which I am not so that's a bit worrying.

You must contract BG to tell them this is why you are leaving, otherwise your price will increase with everyone elses.

BG only need to receive EDF's notification, not have the switch completed within the timescale.

I think by now (or within 20 days) giving them notice on that number you are entitled to the old rates. It will take 6 to 8 weeks for the transfer to go through.

In my case, the old OVO rates are lower than the EDF to whom I am switching, so if it takes 8 weeks then all well and good.

The there's our Welcome Bonus :rotfl:from EDF. (or is there?).

Ever get the feeling that none of them have a clue what they are doing? ;)

They've already received the notification from EDF so they know but if I'm still there on the 10th they'll no doubt charge me at the higher rate unless I formally refuse the price rise.

That's right - both need to happen. You'll probably see an adjustment on your last BG bill to match the change.
