F T B question?

My wife has had her flat now for 4 years. I now stay with her since we wed, I've never owed a house and am not on her mortgage. We intend to sell her flat next year and buy another house together.
Could we be classed as FTB's if we enter into a joint mortage as I've never been linked to one in the past? Thanks
