That's not true the world over. A friend is planning on going to Australia in the next couple of years. She's already been told that she'll need to show she has a certain level of readily-available savings (I think she said £2k) - this is so as to support herself if she doesn't get work, & also pay for flights back home if things don't work out. Also, any payment arrangements (DMP or BR) are likely to be picked up on, as they will have access to the same info. She's going for a DMP specifically because a BR on her file will make things more difficult for her out there, as she'll want to buy a property with her husband at some point.

It was the other way around when they looked into going to America. America is very strict about certain things, but a BR was apparently looked on almost as an incidental event, whereas a DMP meant they needed their debts to be supervised so couldn't be trusted.

When my Australian-born sister-in-law (dual nationality) went back to Australia in 2004 on holiday expecting to get a tax rebate, she was told that she actually owed taxes there. She told them she couldn't pay it because she was only there on holiday & worked in the UK. When she came back here, an attachment of earnings order was put on her UK salary to pay them. She then accrued some debts in the UK which she defaulted on (possibly because she knew she was going back to Australia for good), but now she's back there she can't get any credit at all because the defaults have shown up on her credit file. Her choice is either to settle the debts from Australia, or come back here to do it. She's not working at the moment, but when she starts, I fully expect her to end up with an earnings order on her Australian salary to deal with it, because information is clearly being shared at some level.

Seems as though you are proud of the fact you wiped off so much debt.

Even though i went bankrupt i am not proud of wiping debt off even though i know the creditors are making billions in profit. I certainly wouldn't go round boasting about it.
