12th Nov "TGI Friday" Daily Chat thread

Morning!

@ SRM - I hope your OH's ok, I don't remember you ever telling us how that ended.

I thought I'd start a new thread before we get any more confusion from people using the old one. :) First of all, a small rant. I have some incredibly racist d***heads on my friends list on FB. And people wonder why I don't want to live in Scarborough again once I graduate. I'm starting to see I was lucky to get out! No offence to your sister, Ames, but I'm starting to see what a load of pathetic chavs I grew up with in that town.

Anyway, rant over. The recycling lorry is on its way slowly backwards down the hill but I can't be bothered to put anything out. I'm in my dressing gown and I'm not doing a Snaggs. :D I'll put it all in the box for next week later on, when the landlord's gone. He's going at lunchtime today. Three weeks of peace! :j I've also got a mystery shop scheduled at lunchtime so I'll be going out to do that, plus buying some milk. I want to get the shop done as early as possible in the time set for it since I barely slept last night (again) so I'll need a rest before work. Especially since I'm stopping until closing time tonight, and probably every night in the foreseeable future. Between Xmas, my car's MOT in March (which as it stands, I have 0 savings for) and saving to rent a flat in London, I'll really have to reign in the spending and up the hours to make ends met. :(

Well, I won't get anything done if I sit here typing all day, plus someone else'll start the chat if I keep going much longer. :D So, what's everyone else's plans for the day?

    Hi Kayleigh,

I've got to sort this room and do a homework list for this week so I don't miss anything and I can get a gold star :D Then I'll sort this room to some sort of reasonable standard and bag up what I need to take home to my real house with me.

Had a bit of a difficult week. My OH has told me that he doesn't cope well with long distance relationships which has kind of knocked me for six. When we started seeing each other we were 200 miles apart and now we're only 150. I can see what he's saying but we only have to limp through to the spring and then I can move up there. It's not like there wasn't a map there to consult at the start.

So he's wobbling. I've got a potential tenant trying to decide whether they want to provide me with financial security by taking my house. and I'm living in a house where one of the students * (* AKA small child) seems to have difficulty with the concept of reimbursing you for money you have paid out for gas / electric and two of them have an issue with the concept of toilet rolls not growing on trees. It's a toilet roll desert in here, waiting to see who cracks first. I'm starting to get !!!!ed off with it all and am looking for a warm house, not on pre-payment meters with adults in it.

Please can I have a little bit of stability in my life.

    B

p.s. Have just had a call from a well known pub chain inviting me for interview on Sunday so not all bad.

    Mornin'.

K: I'd say delete your FB account, to be honest; I haven't logged into mine for nigh on a year now, and I don't seem to miss it.

Finally had the cashback from my home insurance come through today. Ten **-damned months later! :rotfl:

Of course, I was hoping to put that against the card, but I just ran up against the buffers on hard disk space: it's all gone, I have 0 bytes left. Might have to spend some Actual Money on the computer, for the first time in a year.

Don'tcha hate it when that happens?

  • @ Butti - Men can be right !!!!!! sometimes. I'm taking a guess the housemates are probably male too. Then again, last year it was one of the other women that never paid her bills (and yet somehow had the money to spend Xmas in South Africa with her boyfriend ). But it was the lads with no maturity, one complete w**ker who spent all day (and most of the night) on his bleeding console or listening to Russell Brand at top volume and one who wouldn't back me up on the many times I tried to organise a cleaning rota, because I was one of the messy ones (exactly why I was asking for his help, the others wouldn't listen and I needed a kick up the backside to clean things) and then had the nerve to blame me at the end of the year because we lost money on the deposit! Men! We've sent some of them to the moon, can't we just pack the lot of them off there?   And before you ask, no, I'm actually not annoyed with my OH over anything right now. :D

@ Two9A - Not really an option, my friends organise all our social events on FB so I'd have no social life without it. Plus, I'd miss Farmville too much. :D Welcome to the DC btw, I don't think I've seen you in here before. :)

....the cleaning rota. Ah yes I remember having one of them once. They had a meeting about it (I was away) and didn't want to clean, didn't want a rota, didn't want to collect money for cleaning materials etc.etc.

That's obviously another one the cleaning fairy will be sorting.

Tbh, cleaning rotas only really work if there's one member of the house or more willing to enforce them. In my 2nd year, that was Simon, one of the few nice examples of the male gender. He actually managed to get the balance right between forcing us to clean and being friendly about it. I really miss him now. :o

Morning! Are you fully recovered from your jump yet Kayleigh? I wouldn't delete your FB account either, just hide or delete the people involved. You can't change people, but you can choose not to read their crap.

Two9A, can't you just delete some stuff? :) Welcome to the DC by the way although I think I have seen you around before.

Butti, sorry to hear that. Long distance relationships can be hard, but there are advantages to them too. You both have your own space, you can be two individuals who are happy on their own but just happen to really like spending time together, you have the excitement and anticipation of waiting to see each other, and when you do get together, it tends to be for proper, quality time. And...ahem...rudethingsaresogood when you have to wait a while for them.

It is a shame if he is only seeing the negatives. Maybe you need to remind him of the positives too.

  • hi everyone

hope everyone is well. i think just reading this that everyone is suffering that winter feeling, just everyone seems to have a rant. hope you don't mind if i joined in. just watching the news makes me angry these days.I know the country is in state but to cut benefits is just plain silly. i live in an area that has high unemployment i think we are lucky because my husband works but i have to be honest that if it wasn't for tax credits we wouldn't be able to live on what he earns. i mean there are some that milk the system and it spoils it for all the honset people. it does make me angry, just wondered what you all thought about it . Rant over.

I think he's just on a bit of a downer TBH. He works hard at work and travelling knackers him. I'm going to go up to see him in a couple of weeks I think and I don't mind if I do more travelling than him (I can study on the train) provided he takes care of me when I get up there and its not so imbalanced it's a !!!! take.

Have had a letter from a certain pub chain inviting me for interview. If I'm successful they may invite me for a free work trial. My reaction is unprintable. If you invite me for a work trial I'm sure you can afford to pay me 2 hours National Minimum Wage!

  • @ Butti - Bloody cheek!

Well, I can officially say FB isn't all bad. One of the 'immature chavs' I remember growing up actually seems to have turned out alright. Another I think might have but I can't say for sure just yet. :)

    hello!

Kayleigh, my sister says exactly the same about Scarborough, they really resent people who've left too. Most of the people I grew up with have left though so I don't really see that side of it.

Butti, hugs, don't really know what to say about the BF, and the pub chain are having a laugh!

I went to the hospital this morning. It looks like I'm not going to have a bone marrow test now but he was looking at old info, so I'm not sure I believe him. But because of the warts I have to have smears more often - the virus that causes the warts is connected to the one that causes cervical cancer. Oh joy. And the three doctors are going to discuss me, but I'll probably be starting on the blood transfusions for a trial of six months and see how it goes. I'll find out about that next week. I actually feel quite upbeat about it all though, after ten years of dithering things are starting to happen and get resolved.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
