in Cutting tax
Hi
I started a new job mid 07 and got the tax code BR.
I've also noticed that this BR code was used throughout all of 08/09. In 08/09 I earned just under 30k and was taxed just under 6k. This means ive been taxed about 20% across all my earnings. Does this mean im due for a refund as it seems i didnt have a tax free allowance ?
Thanks, James

Hi, thanks for your replies.
I received a letter for the tax office after I wrote to them informing them about my tax code.
They wrote;
You completed self assessment tax returns for the tax years 2007/08 and 2008/09. You would have submitted your employment income figures on the returns. Therefore, any repayments of tax would have been issued through self assessment.
----
Would this have been the case? I dont understand really as my tax code was definately BR.
Thanks again

What they are saying is that you have completed a self assessment where you have included this income and tax paid within the assessment. Any refund that was subsequently due for these years will have been issued following the processing of these returns.
Contact HMRC and they will be able toprovide you with details of when they were issued and how much these payments were.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.
