Googling for kasha might turn up more hits than buckwheat - kasha referrs to the toasted buckwheat (I think!) that Russians use all the time. I use buckwheat flour for pancakes but I've never used the grains.
  • I use it in blinis :) Delicious with smoked salmon and sour cream.

There are lots of recipes for buckwheat. Just google. I was brought up on kasha so no wonder I am so healthy now. It is a great nutritious food

When I was totally broke, with a dh and 3 children to feed, I used to make a big pot of buckwheat with chunky veg and served it with spicy tomato sauce. They all wolfed it up. You can just cook the grains like rice. Buckwheat contains quite a high % of protein plus eg rutin, for vein health, as well as other goodies
  • I just read `traditionally made into blinis and eaten with caviar` what utter tosh. Buckwheat was peasant food
  • I have used it as an alternative to pearl barley before, a tasty "bulking up" ingredient. :)

I had to go to the Polish shop to buy some. It was about 15 years since I had it but just got a craving yesterday when I was looking at old photos. I lost about 2 stone in 5 months on a diet of mainly bread and buckwheat, just thought it would make a nice change from pasta, cous cous and rice.

I am going to make some porridge tomorrow.:j
