My DD recently found someone locally to share a little of the cost of commuting with on

I've just looked at the website and it seems to be excellent.

Saves money, saves road congestion, saves pollution and fewer parking problems.

I used to be a member of this, it was great (but recently moved and started cycling instead). The only thing that did wind me up was I was once or twice put in touch with people who just needed a lift to work. Which I don't mind doing, but it isn't exactly getting cars off the road, as had I not given them a lift they would have gone on the bus or train I suppose.

Yes that would wind me up too - not exactly in the spirit of things. A lift to work is fine if there is a small contribution to costs or if there is a reciprocation with them giving you a lift.

I encountered a similar thing Freecycle - someone expected me to get the goods to her on account of her saving the planet and not using petrol to come and collect! Oh well. We must rise above it I guess;)
