Primark was mentioned by OP - the quality of clothes isn't amazing. It's the old adage - you get what you pay for.
If you like the coat and want to keep it then let them repair it, otherwise it might be worth investing in something a bit more hardwearing.

Agree- let them repair it, if they can this would be more expensive for them I am sure but its their choice.0 -
There isn't anything you can do to 'force' a refund. The company is perfectly within it's rights to offer a repair or an exchange if it's been a couple of months since purchase. The law states that an item must be fit for purpose therefore by offering to repair the coat for you they are restoring the product to it's 'fit for purpose' condition.
It might be worth writing a letter to the head office - you might get a gesture of goodwill voucher from them. Whether or not we are in a recession won't make any difference - it's all down to the goodwill of the company.
Personally I wouldn't expect a coat from Primark to last more than a couple of months!!0
