Making your own christmas decorations

Hi everyone
Sorry if this is in the wrong place, this is my first post so i havent had a really good look around yet!

I live in corfu so the choice of christmas decorations are quite limited so i thought i would have a go at making some nice ones myself, is it possible to make ones that dont look naff or cheap (i remember as a youngster making eggbox bells etc! )

Any ideas or websites would be helpfull.

  • Polystyrene shapes - like balls, or bells - my local craft place has a many shapes!! Then get craft pins and sequins, and pin sequins all over them!! I'm making Xmas pudding ones this year - they're time consuming, but look gorgeous!!!

  • my mum is making decorations for our tree this yaer and the best ones she has made sofar she has made from cereal boxes:rotfl:

its not as strange as it sound you get a chrsitmas shape she has been making bells and draw on the cardboard the size you want cut it out and then draw 3 more so that you have 4 in total now on the cardboard draw a slightly larger bell and then cut that out now draw around the larger bell on some christmas material (mum has gone for tartan) then again cut out so have 4 sapes in total. now should have 4 cardboard bell shapes and 4 material bell shapes slightly larger. tack stitch the material around the bell so that it gathers up on the back do the same to all the bell shapes. now fold the shape in half vertically. the you place the four bells together so that you have a 3 dimensional bell. (not sure if that made sense) then sew the sides together. before you sew the last side put in a loop of ribbon to hang it from. once it is all stitched up undo the tacking so that the stitches cannot be seen mum than added beads to the end of the ribbon and the corners of the bell. if this made no sense the pm me and i will try and get some pictures so it is easier to follow but i think this should be ok. :o

the decorations look really smart and expensive but it is also a good way to recycle cardboard so helping the environment to:T
