Standalone banks?

Hi
As a precaution i want to open a basic current account that i can use for my salary should i lose my current job(winter coming in its very likely and ill find another job easy enough but at a much reduced salary)so im looking for a standalone bank in scotland that can offer a basic account ; whilst should the need arise i negotiate repayments with my creditors(i have loans to the value of 19.5 k with my own bank as one(tsb)......im looking at the Clydesdale bank...does anyone know if they are affiliated with any of the other banks or any other suggestions welcome:j
