Hi. I came in tonight and had a missed delivery card from Royal Mail. It said 'Parcel left in dustbin'so I looked in the bin and nothing. Now I don't know if it was put in there and someone's nicked it or if it wasn't put there in the first place. If I call Royal Mail tomorrow do you think they'll be able to shed any light on whether it was put in there and what time? As there's no time or item numnber or anythiing on there. ANy ideas?

Oh thats bad, i hate it when they leave parcels like that! I'm sure if you call the sorting office they will look into it for you x
Hope you get the parcel x:starmod: May all your wishes come true! :starmod:0 -
Hi Marie
DH is a postman. He said to get in contact with your delivery office is asap. This contact info is on the back of the 'Sorry you were out' card.
They should then be able to speak to whoever was your postman today to find out where the parcel was left and at what time. (Is it clearly identifiable which is your bin - are you in a block of flats/houses where all the bins are together for instance?)
Were you expecting the parcel and do you know what it was? I ask this because DH tells me that if a parcel goes missing it is the sender who should claim from RM, not the recipient.
Hope you get it sorted out tomorrow.

thank you both for your replies! no I wasnt expecting anything so no idea what it was and I live in a maisonette so there is one dustbin either side of our double door. checked both in the dark and rain using a torch!! nothing in either.
I will call them tomorrow. it just struck me that a dustbin is a very strange place to leave a parcel?! especially considering there were dirty bags in both of the bins. nice!
I can see the postman's thinking though, at least it's out of sight. Trouble is on my road, if someone saw it being put in there, there's a possibility they wouldn't be long in removing it!
As I say, I'll call them tomorrow and see if they can help. Thanks again for your help x:A0 -
Hello. Hope you dont mind me butting in but a few years ago one of my mates said a parcel came for one of her neighbours and the delivery bloke put it in her green bin but some kids had seen him do it and they nicked it. Her neighbour said it was a dressing gown she had ordered so dont think a group of 6 lads would have kept it!!
Best thing to do is put a little note on your door not to leave parcels anywhere unless neighbours take them in for you. I know it might be a hassle going to the sorting office/depot but at least the parcel is safe.
Hope it turns up....Logic will get you from A to B but imagination can take you anywhere!
Being honest may not get get you a lot of friends - but it will get you the right ones.

I sympathise with you....my parcel man always does this....also if I order from a catalogue...they do it too....Im sure they shouldn't really...anyone could be watching and take it. I think its pure laziness on their part. Hope you get it sorted soon.0

I have this when i order from the catalogue too! He will leave big boxes on the doorstep, smaller parcels under my sons sandpit or in the bin, or again just on the doorstep! I had a £100 pan set go missing once and i wanted it in time for christmas, so i ended up having to go out and buy them and the catalogue gave me a refund.:starmod: May all your wishes come true! :starmod:0 -

I've just phoned sorting office and they were really nice and helpful. spoke to the manager and he said he will speak to the post man on saturday, get some more info on when/where he left it and will call me back.
Thanks everybody for your help!0 -
Sorry to hear you have had troubles with a missing parcel, especially frustrating when you don't know who the sender was!
I do wonder why any postie leaves parcels in bins/binsheds/round the back/in full view? I know it sounds crazy but if it's not handed to someone at that address surely it can't be classed as delivered? Is it so they don't have to take it back to the post office? If it had happened to me I would be pretty vexed, but then again Royal Mail did somehow lose a £250 jacket I had returned to House of Fraser and have been reluctant to compensate amongst many other issues. I guess it's that time of year.
Hope they manage to find out what has happened!Comping wishlist for 2017
