Edible gold leaf...amazing but expensive, advice needed !

The current Good Food magazine has a pud which is a clementine and prosecco jelly with GOLD LEAF on top. I am planning to have this for Xmas day (we all hate Xmas pud and usually have fruit salad) As it's Christmas I thought I would splash out and buy the smallest possible amount of edible gold leaf but the website they give has it as 'sheets' or 'flakes'. I know it's very hard to handle and I wondered if anyone who has ever used it could tell me if the 'flakes' might be OK as they're much cheaper (it's hard to see from the picture quite what you get for the money).

Funnily enough Kirsty ? on her programme last night was working with gold leaf, she mentioned edible gold leaf. Maybe if you look on channel 4 about it cos she did mention links and how to`s etc. Think the show is called Kirsty`s Homemade Home or something.

I've used flakes. They cme in small pieces in a very small pot, and were very dear. I have found them easy to use, but I only put it on in small accenting scraps, so pretty much in flakes, so they work for me.

was just going to say this she did say last night that the carot gold leaf was around £23 for either book or sheet cant remember but a cheaper version was approx £3

E bay is a great place for things like this - I get my cake dragees and coloured glitter from there. Postage costs tend to be reasonable as well.
