Black Horse made it difficult for me to pay, now charging interest. Any comeback?

Hi,

I've had a very bad experience with Black Horse and am wondering if there's any comeback.

The loan I took was £1400 to cover a sofa & table. I was able to repay interest-free before 10/10/2010. I missed this date because I wasn't given the information on how to pay.

There is no phone number on their website blackhorse.co.uk, the finance section of their website is down at time or writing, the agreement form doesn't contain a phone number or details on how to pay. It does list an address, but doesn't detail what I can send to that address. A google search doesn't bring up any official contact details for them.

I finally found a contact number on a forum similar to this.

They sent reminder letters to my previous address, despite the agreement listing my new address & date of moving. They're trying to charge me a massive amount of interest for missing the interest-free payment date.

Do I have enough evidence to show they made it very difficult for me make this payment? If so, how should I go about it?

Many thanks!

Just looked at their website and it seems to be working OK.

There is a line in the footer of the home page which says:
Are you already a Black Horse customer, and looking to make a payment?
and this contains a link which sends you to a page where you can enter your agreement number and make a payment.

Also, if you click on the Personal Finance image the linked page gives a telephone number.

On that basis I don't think you will get much luck.

I've never known an Interest Free payment agreement to inform you that the due date is near, nor have I known it to be obvious where and how to send payment.

That is the whole model of this agreement, to hope the customer doesn't spend a few minutes during the 6 Month term finding out what to do and how to pay.

To say you missed it because you didn't receive enough info is a pretty poor excuse.

I think it would be highly unlikely you will get out of this agreement now.

Hindsight is wonderful, but you did have 6 Months to get things in order, lots of people fall foul of this by waiting until the final day of the 0% period before trying to repay.
  • Thanks for the advice. I tried their payment form and it didn't work, turns out they had me registered under my old postcode (which is required information) despite the agreement form showing my new address and date I would move there.

The website is up now & listing their phone number, thankfully I have a screenshot of it not working and listing no contact details.

I take it these companies are under no obligations to send reminders?

If they had your wrong postcode do you not think it may have gone there? But ive never had a reminder whenever i have bought anything interest free.. mind i make a monthly payment anyway so i never end up forgetting about it.

  • That's my point, they sent reminders to my old address (which I have no access to) despite the agreement listing my new address and the date I'd be moving there. I'm hoping this error on their part, combined with the difficulty of finding a number & website being down might give me a case.
  • Ever heard of the post office re-direction service?
  • Yes, I've also heard of informing companies of my new address in writing.

So has anyone ever been warned by letter that their Interest free period is coming to an end??

    I know I haven't.

Yes and I always ask them to confirm receipt of the instruction.

Whichever way you look at your situation you were late in paying so the interest charged is payable ..............sorry.
