  • Hi,
    DGS is domestic and General repair services. THey do all kinds of repairs- boilers, sky plans, water pipes, plumbing. However the key is the code after that which is alpha numeric. That is your policy number.
    Hope this helps.

    DGS = Domestic General Service
    RPP = Regular Payment Plan

    which is insurance for something like a washing machine?

    Hi - hoping someone here can help, as my Google-fu has deserted me this evening, the only hit I got was in_despair's SOA on this board from January this year.

    My boyfriend has had a refund of £49.50 to his account which he wasn't expecting and Nationwide has told him that the payment is from DGS/RPP DD. We've worked out that RPP is Regular Payment Plan and DD is Direct Debit, but we've still no idea which company this is and why they've refunded him! The only thing that we can think of is that it might be Sky as he cancelled his subscription a couple of months ago - anyone know??

    Thanks,
    Caroline

    Domestic & General Regular Payment Plan Direct Debit

    Bought a fridge with 2 yr guarantee, phoned up to register and agreed to 5years for £99 so £33 for each extra year. Good insurance plan I thought. Forgot about it.

    Couldn't work out why £9.90 appeared on bank statement, bank couldn't help. Google found this site. Ah Ha

  • Hi,

    My Mother had the same question as you and I have been looking into it for her. It is a "Domestic & General" Protection Plan. Basically it is a plan to protect your "white goods" in case of breakdown. In my Mother's case it was for a Washing Machine.

    Hope this helps.

  • I took out this warranty for an LG TV I bought in the Christmas Sales in 2009. The more I think about it, the more I remember it was only for 12 months, yet they continued to take the DD for a further 17 months!

    I called them and got a right snotty cow on the phone giving it the big one over how I should have contacted them sooner and that I would have received notifications advising that if I didn't contact them, it would be automatically renewed! I never received anything and I didn't appreciate the patronising feedback!

    I sent an e-mail of complaint on 10th May and received no further response from them. I've just called them and was informed that the 8 week reporting to the ombudsman rule may not apply to them as it's products that are backed by the FSA, rather than them as a company!! I was then told that on 11th May (the next day), someone called and spoke to my wife. That would be a struggle as I am not married! Then I was told it was a female in the house. I informed them that at that time of day, I am the only person here and that they have breached Data Protection Act Regulations. The guy who took my call spoke with his resolution team who requested I send the complaint again (even though he could see that I had complained) and that they had complied with the Data Protection Act when they made the call speaking to this female as they confirmed my details (Surname, Address and Postcode). I informed them that I am not at all happy with this and will be pursuing them through the appropriate channels.

    I would steer well clear of DGS in the future and would urge others to do the same! They seem VERY slippery!
  • What on earth are this company 0n about , cancelled my 1 yearly payment to em and they now telling me its gunna cost me 29 quid to cancel, can they do this seems all wrong..

    Kazzie..
  • I noticed a direct debit to DGS/Rpp that has been going out since October 2008. I have purchased no white goods and have had no paperwork from DGS.
    I phoned my bank today and instructed them to cancell the DD and charge back the payments since inception.
    I'll report on progress.
  • I was checking my bank account recently, to try to save some money by cancelling non-essential payments & noticed I had a couple of Direct Debits to DGS/DomGen.

    I messaged them via their website with the DD references from the bank statement & they replied a day or so later, advising what they related to & one was for a washing machine that I'd not owned for a year!

    I emailed them back to tell them this & got a similar response to the person above, that I'd have received a renewal notice, that the original extended warranty I'd bought before would be expiring soon & she said that it would have stated it'd be automatically renewed if they didn't get a cancellation from me.

    I replied to say that 1) their renewal paperwork obviously wasn't clear enough & should be more than small print to say it would renew unless I cancelled & 2) why would I have renewed a warranty for an appliance I didn't have any longer.

    I stood my ground & "as a gesture of good will" apparently, they refund the £77.74 I'd paid by mistake over the previous 10 months.
    Good result & only what I'd have expected in the circumstances.
    I'm angry with myself for not questioning it sooner & will certainly read any correspondence they send me more carefully in future.
  • Crikey what a con. I only thought I'd signed up for a one off repair and it turns out they have been fleecing me in direct debits for the last 5 months!

    The way they post the direct debits on peoples bank statements is totally dishonest. This is surely Watchdog material!
