New Employers - Credit Checks?

Hi, noob here, so I apologise if this has been dealt with elsewhere. I have tried to use the seach facility but not yielded any results.
Finally, after most of this year I have been unemployed due to the closure of my last employers just after Christmas, I have just found a job. So good news there!
The problem is, it is conditional upon a credit check.
Up until earlier this year my credit history was good, no late markers, all good. However, now due to lack of income things have slid and I have some defaults. So now I am worried! (Understatement!)
I have searched high and low around google, and most of the 'pre screening' services seem to say that they do a financial history check - ccj's (dont have any) bankrupt (not yet!) sequestration (not yet!) or fraud markers (nope) and that is the extent of it. None of this bothers me.
However, if the new employers did like an Experian or Equifax check this would show arrears/late payments and defaults. All bought about my my old job going bust. And it's my priority to get these settled just ASAP, but I need the job. As you may guess, I am really worried that the credit check the new employer may do, would show up this stuff.
Does anyone have any idea on how these things work?
Any guidance or suggestions on what I would do will be greatfully received.
Sorry for rambling a bit, esp on my first post! Thanks all for reading.

If the new employers do a credit check then yes it will show late payments and defaults. It will also show credit that you have applied for.
It is unlikely that they will be interested in minor defaults and are more likely to be interested in whether you have any CCJs or bankruptcy.
My boss was starting a new job with Tesco Bank and he was offered a conditional post, however, due to a mortgage repossession (I believe, though may be office gossips!) his offer was retracted.0 -

Many thanks for your reply.
This is not a job in banking/finance or any somesuch. It is for an installation planner for a fairly large (200 employee) business that does home improvements.
I don't handle cash.
TBH it all seems a bit too invasive, and as much as I need the job, what business is it of theirs my personal finances; finances that are in a mess because of a previous employer!
It does not seem fair, that's all. :mad:0 -
Hi Fresh-Start!
I've read your above post with interest, as I am in a very similar position!
Do you mind me asking what has been the outcome of your employment credit check?
Kind regards,

If you have the offer in writing I'd front up and say due to being laid off you've had some late payments but no CCJs or repossessions, and you're going to clear them as fast as you can.
Shouldn't affect you if a) you are honest and b) you're not going to be doing stuff like processing credit agreements.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
Just wanted to check back and update you. Everything went fine and I started the job and am really very happy.0

Thats good news. Hope you carry on enjoying it.
I'm job hunting like mad too. I apply for quite a few each day. I've been round to companies and door knocked and most of them say if there are any vacancies, they will be on the internet, grrr.
I wish someone will employ me quickly.0
