Don't worry, just go for it and enjoy yourself. Just stick the debt on my (and all the other poor sucker taxpayers) tab. Why not max out a few credit cards, as good old sibley suggested above - a bit more spending money. After all, it's a drop in the Ocean. Go on, you only live once.

As a taxpayer. If you are happy paying chavvy mothers knocking out kids on the dole, lazy slobs who won't work, muslim UK haters etc etc then bunging some fella making a new life for himself should wear well with you.

I'd prefer him to get the money than any of the other groups listed.

Practically speaking, what are the immigration concerns? I would assume that Oz, like the US, and most countries, considers credit history and bankruptcy as part of your immigration application. Maybe you should call citizens advice before taking any action?

There are ways and means of leaving with no come back... for example, by simply declaring bankruptcy, or allowing them to reposess and then doing a full and final settlement.

But, really, I think you should get advice from people who know what they are talking about, not some random board full of strangers.

Have you been to debt free wanabee to see if you can actually repay the debt without messing around? If you have only got a half share, the housing association may buy it back anyway.
    12 years, not 6.

I do not think this is the case, I think if you actually flee the jurisdiction of the court 'in the dead of night' as it were, the court will prevent you relying on the limitations act 1980. In other words, I think they will be able to chase you if you ever return to Britain.

You know what Sibley? I'm genuinely glad our paths never cross in Thailand.

Your posts typify everything I despise about the lowlife dross that fails in the UK and ends up scraping an existence in Thailand, while pretending to both their friends and themselves that they're living the highlife.

I'd put your place up for sale now.
I think you will be surprised and it will sell.

Things have really picked up. The people trying to spread doom and gloom are basically renters who cannot afford a property. Lets put it this way. If they could afford your place it would be sold today. They would love to own it.

Stick it up for sale at the going rate and see what happens. It would be better going to Oz with a few quid in your pocket.

If you do decide to walk.

I wouldn't take too much notice of what is being said to you on here. Not that much will happen as long as you stay over there at least 6 years. Don't have any contact with your lender.

If things work out in Oz you won't even think about it.

I know morally and all that it's wrong but to me it's no worse than many of the things people do in UK.

If you are going down that road you might as well go for broke. Max out all your cards etc. Go with as much money as you can. It won't make any difference to anything.

I left UK a year ago. I left all honest and even paid my tax bill.

I had my bank manager begging me to take a £50,000 overdraft on my LTD company business account, 4 credit cards with £8000 limits, couple of grand OD in bank account etc.

Many a time I wondered if I should have hit them.

I played the game all honest for what?

My credit rating in UK is now probably bad as I don't get money paid into UK. I wouldn't be a lot worse than you if you hit the banks and returned 6 years later.

I have got set up here now like you will in Oz. New bank and credit card.

Whatever you do you won't be losing sleep over it if all works out in Oz.

Up to you at the end of the day but I'd get the For Sale sign up.

Don't drop the price and owe money. I'd rather take a hit for the full amount than let some vulture get a cheap place. You would still have a debt you would never pay off as well. Might as well go for broke.

Of course you can go, but:
    1. the lender may chase you in Australia
    2. unlikely, but the lender could make you bankrupt in your absence.
    3. you could make enough money in Australia to pay off the debt.
    4. When/ if you return the lender could start chasing you for the debt.

In your absence the property would be sold and any negative equity recorded as a debt against your name with the lender. Normally the lenders don't chase immediately but give you time to get back on your feet before demanding payment. They have 12 years to find you and get the debt acknowledged.

Lender can't chase in the Aussie courts unless the debt is with an Aussie branch of an Aussie bank.

You are not the only one glad our paths never cross.

I didn't fail in UK. That's why I managed to get this position in Bangkok. I think there were over 1000 over applicants.

I'm not scraping an existence either. I'm not rich but not doing bad.

You seem to be under the false impression that you are better than everyone else.

For me, you are the type I dislike the most. You've gone native.

If you could be bothered to learn how to speak Thai you would discover your wife hates your guys really.

I'm shallow but I see Thailand for what it is. Fun and I enjoy it.

If you want to think you are your situation are better or different from everyone elses then crack on.

By the way. Is your Thai wife the same age as you and fat?

    Thought not.

You are the same as me. :rotfl:
