Any suggestions of how to track down a whole of market broker in NW Kent / SE London area?

That means you'll get half a service if you do find him.
Some de - authorised brokers HAVE to place cases through an authorised channel, so he will really rely on that thrid party. The commision will be diluted so I'd say there's a fair chance the service will be sub par. Not only that but de - authorised brokers never have fall access to whats going on - they wouldn't want to 'push' the authorised broker to go into grewat detailed searches for the right lender as they may worry they are causing this pivotal individual extra work.
There are plenty of able and streetwise brokers out there, find a new one I thinks:D0 -

https://www.unbiased.co.uk search by postcode and filter for mortgages. That is the UK database for independents.
