Rice&beans cuban style

OK

I purchased ( 3 for a quid :T) 3 tins of tropical sun Black Beans/ frijoles negros in salted water

What do I have to put with them & the rice, to make that luscious sticky spicy rice I have scoffed happily on many a tropical holiday?

NO recipe on the tin Im afraid, but it does have a recipe for spicy black bean soup which I had once in Mexico and was lovely- will try that with the other tins :)

Problem is these beans are tinned - so I wouldnt be able to set aside the dark cooking fluid

My thinking cap is on :)

I think this is what Caribbeans call 'Rice and Peas', you might find something if you search for that?

I was thinking the same but rice and peas has coconut milk in it and that recipie doesn't. In fact according to a student cook book of mine (so likely a very simplified less than authentic version) rice and peas is just brown rice and black-eyed peas cooked in a mixture of coconut milk and water seasoned with thyme.
