New job! But how much will I be paid?

Hello everyone,

I found out last week that my interview was sucessful for an Art Technician job in m local school!

The salary is £13,352 pro rata, and as I am only working term times, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to work out how much money I will get per month. The woman in the office says it is spread across the months even if I am not working in them (such as the summer hols).

I know that i need to remove 22% for tax, but does pro rata mean i need to deduct pay from the weeks I am not working? If so, I think I will be working 38 weeks out of the 52 in the year.

If anyone has time to help me work it out, that would be great..

Are you working full time? Ie how many hours would you be working.

I would have thought that when pro rata is in a job advert for a school I would assume that it would be for full time work during the school term times? Maybe someone who works in school will know? If it is only part time then the wages would get worked 'pro rata'?

I think You have to divide your salary by your work hours and then multiply the figure by 52 as your salary will be spread over 52 weeks not 38. HTH

thanks both of you, I will try those out. It is a full-time job and it says on my welcome letter, "full time permanent position, term time only".

You do of course get a personal allowance (just over £5000 this tax year) on which you DON'T pay any tax.

Having said that, I usually find that if I take my gross salary, take 25% (1/4) off for Tax and National Insurance, the 75% left is as near as dammit my take home pay.

Easy 38/52 x £13,352 = £9757 actual annual salary.

This means you will receive after tax and national insurance £698.01 a month or £161 a week.

I work part time in a school as an IT technician.
I work 15 hours a week.
I work 39 weeks a year but get paid for 43 weeks (holiday pay).
It gets spread out over 52 weeks.
