Help!!! - Capital One debt...

My husband has a debt with Capital one (£580) that was being paid to a collection agency up until about June this year. The debt collection agency stopped taking the payments and we presumed it was all paid off. My husband recieved a letter the other day saying that debt is now with capital one again and they are now demanding the whole amount and won't accept any kind of installments like my husband was paying the other company and say if he doesn't pay it all it's going to be passed to another agency (Who will no doubt add their own fees on top of that  ). He's called them twice now and each time they've said it's all or nothing and even though he's offered to pay in installments capital one say that he can pay but capital one won't have agreed to it so it'll still go to another agency.
Can anyone give any advice? This is just typical when we've set out to sort out our debts and knew where we stood, and something else just comes and kicks you in the a** again.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as we can't afford to give them £380 (Which is what they offered to 'settle' the debt..) as we just don't have that kind of money at all or any credit cards it can be put on to (Not that we'd want to anyway!).

If you have the details of the last company phone them and ask what has happened.
I would then give Capital One all the details of the amounts that you have already paid to this other company and explain that you were in an agreement to pay the daebt but the COMPANY has reneged and not you.
Hopefully they will see sense and help you out.0
