in Cutting tax
Hi I have a tax calculation here for 08-09 and they're saying i owe them £904.60 :(:(:(
In 2008 I worked 30 hours on £6 per hour, until the end of January 2009 when I was made redundant and claimed income based JSA and partner moved in with me who was also claiming.
The sheet says:
PAYE Income: £7341. Tax Paid: £471
JSA Income: £7342. Tax Paid: £471
JSA Income: £584. Tax Paid: £0
This seems a lot of JSA for Feb - Apr 09??? Me and my ex were getting about £101 a week for both of us as a joint payment.
I don't understand at all.
So it says my income was £15268
Personal allowance £6035
Income tax is chargeable on this amount: £9233
Tax on £9233 is £1846.60
Tax Underpaid £904.60
:huh::huh::huh:
So is the underpayment from my time in employment or JSA? Was i on the wrong tax code or something? No matter how many times i read this letter it makes zero sense to me.

They have obviously included your pay twice and described it as JSA the second time.
I think your income is more likely to be 7925, with tax due of 378 giving a refund of £93.00

There is no way you would have got that much JSA and given it's suspicious similarity to what you earned, it looks like a mistake on thier part. You should have a P45 and a P60(JSA) with the correct figures on so I would contact them to say the figures are incorrect.PAYE Income: £7341. Tax Paid: £471
JSA Income: £7342. Tax Paid: £471
JSA Income: £584. Tax Paid: £0Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

Thank you both so much. I must admit to almost shatting my pants when i got that letter.
I will dig out the P45 and P60 and get a letter written, if they owe ME £93 i would be over the moon after this little scare
